About The Program... Raritan Valley Community College offers an A.A. in Theatre Arts and an A.F.A in Technical Theatre. The A.A. in Theatre is ideal for the student interested in acting, directing or playwriting. This degree offers a liberal arts curriculum with ample studio (acting, production) and lecture (appreciation, theatre history) courses. Majors will graduate with a strong foundation in Theatre Arts that can be further developed at a four year institution. Graduates of the program can seamlessy transfer with junior status to four year public colleges in New Jersey. Recent graduates of the program have transferred to Montclair State University, Marymount Manhattan College, Ramapo University, Drew University, and Rutgers.
The A.F.A Technical Theatre degree provides students interested in design, stage management, and technical direction with a curriculum that will enable to either continue their studies at a four year program or take an entry level position in the industry. Recent graduates have transferred to Ramapo University, Rider University, and Rutgers.

Dennis Russo (Theatre Program Coordinator) Dennis won a Mid-Atlantic fellowship in 2005 for his first play, Saving the Theatre which also won the New Jersey Playwright's Competition in 2006 and was fully produced at William Patterson University. His plays have been presented in New York City at venues including, the Bank Stree Theatre, The Westbeth Theatre Centre, and The Actors Studio. He has been a semi - finalist for the O'Neill National Playwright's Conference in 2005 and 2008. He is a lifetime member of the Actor's Studio, and received his M.F.A in Acting from The New School for Drama in 2001. |
Mark Bloom (Design Coordinator) Mark has designed off and off - off Broadway for over 10 years. Recently Mark designed for the New York Fringe Festival and HERE New York as well as art direction for film and television. Broadway credits include Street Corner Symphony (lighting) at Hammerstein Ballroom, as well as, work on Cabaret, and 1776. Off Broadway design credits include, Panache, Six Goumbahs and a Wannabe, Chaim's Love Song. He also assisted on Book of the Dead and In the Blood at the Public Theatre. As a director, Mark's Off Broadway credits include The Trials of Martin Guerre, Embers, In The Name of the Awesome, and Yeats: Plays of Passion. Mark is also artistic director for Mystic Theatre, a company which produces modern verse drama.
